Francis "Shorty" Richard Kehres

Francis Richard “Shorty” Kehres, 88, Olpe, Kansas, died at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia, Kansas on Thursday, December 2, 2010.

Francis Richard Kehres was born in Maydale, Kansas on December 7, 1921, the son of Joseph and Mary (Scheve) Kehres. He married Patricia Matheis at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas on May 26, 1962. She survives.

Other surviving family members include: his son, Edward (Christine) Kehres, Emporia, Kansas; three daughters, Marie (Mike) Guion, Emporia, Kansas, Linda Kehres, Topeka, Kansas, and Norma (Randy) Lohrentz, Emporia, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Rand, Colton, and Kaden Lohrentz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter, Arthur, and Warren Kehres; and a sister, Maurice Brown.

He was employed by Tide Water Oil Company two years before working for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Corporation for 31 years, retiring in 1985.

Francis was a member of the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as a Trustee. He was an honorary life member of Alexis Council, Knights of Columbus. Shorty was a Saint Joseph School Board member for many years and was one of the founders of the Saint Joseph BBQ, serving on that committee 40 years. He served as President and Treasurer of the Olpe Lions Club and was a member for 25 years, and was also active in the Boy Scout Organization, serving as a Scout Master.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas, Celebrated by Father Anthony Williams. Burial will be in the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe.

The Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 6:00 PM at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The family will receive friends during the hour before the rosary.
