Frank A. Childers, 89, Emporia, Kansas, died at Emporia Presbyterian Manor on Tuesday, December 30, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, Emporia’ on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. Services conducted by Pastor Susan Daniel-Brey of the church. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, with military honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The family will receive friends at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Friday evening, January 2, 2015 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Frank Childers was born on May 25, 1925 in Emporia, the son of Frank and Sara Jane (Morgan) Childers. He married LaVeda M. Jones in Emporia on September 29, 1946. She passed away on March 23, 2000.
Surviving family members include his sons, Ronald L. Childers (Anita) of Allen, Kansas and LeRoy A. Childers (Marge) of Iowa Park, Texas; Frank’s companion of several years, Joan Parks, Emporia; as well as five granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and eight great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Frank worked for Sauder Tank Company for 31 years, retiring 27 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, where he had served in the Color Guard, and also was a member of Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Frank was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Emporia.
The family requests no flowers, with memorials established to the church, or Hand In Hand Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
