Franklin "Frank" Earl Voorhees

Franklin “Frank” Earl Voorhees, age 83, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, surrounded by his family at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Frank was born on April 28, 1941, at home in rural Olpe, Kansas, the son of Henry and Emma (Smith) Voorhees.  After Frank completed first grade the family moved to Americus.  He graduated from Americus High School in 1960.  Soon after graduating from high school, he began employment at Didde Web Press and worked there for 46 years before retiring in 2006.

Frank married Elizabeth Matile on July 8, 1962, at the Americus United Methodist Church.  Their marriage of 62 years was filled with love and faith.

Frank will be greatly missed by his wife Liz, daughter Laurie (Justin) Temple of Alma; granddaughter Ashton (Dustin) Lindsey of Des Moines, Iowa, and grandson Ethan Temple of Gardner.  Frank’s siblings include his brothers, Bill Voorhees of Emporia, Don Voorhees of Waverly, and Jerry Voorhees of Americus; sisters, Mary Buckbee of Emporia, and Betty Sue Young of Council Grove.

He is preceded in death by his parents and infant brother Wayne Voorhees.

Frank’s hobbies included his cattle, gardening, and church activities.  His greatest joy in life was his family.  He was always eager to watch his grandkids and extended family participate in sports and 4-H activities.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Emporia.  The family will receive visitors following the service.  A private burial will be later at the Americus Cemetery, Americus.
