Fred Gerard Burenheide

Fred Gerard Burenheide, 77, Olpe, Kansas, died Monday, September 12, 2011 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia, Kansas.

Fred was born at Olpe, on October 5, 1933, the son of Fred J. and Caroline (Nuesssen) Burenheide. Fred married Barbara Lynn on October 1, 1955. They later divorced. She died in January of 2005. He later married Anita L. Haag Haley on June 10, 1986 in Houck, Arizona. She survives.

Other surviving family members include: sons, Bruce, Bob, and Scott Burenheide, Emporia, Dale and Doug Burenheide, Olpe; and Daniel Burenheide, Granbury, Texas; daughter, Kimberly Clayton, Lexington, North Carolina; stepsons, Daniel Haley, Lebo, Kansas, and James Haley, Hutchinson, Kansas; stepdaughters, Katherine McClenny, Durango, Colorado, Janeille Ditlevson, Westerville, Ohio, and Angela Ponomarenko, Olathe, Kansas; brothers, Robert Burenheide, Topeka, Kansas and Kenneth Burenheide, Hiawatha, Kansas; a sister, Marilyn Kuhlmann, Olpe; thirty grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Jane Stottlemire.

Mr. Burenheide was the Postmaster at Olpe 22 years before his retirement. He served in the United States Army. Mr. Burenheide was a member of the Saint Joseph Catholic Church at Olpe. For many years Fred was the Sexton of the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Olpe, and Historian of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member and former Secretary-Treasurer of Knights of Columbus Council #1589, a member of Moreland-Edmunds-Clayton Post #342, American Legion, Olpe, for which he had served as Chaplain, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, VFW, Emporia. He had also served as Chief of the Olpe Volunteer Fire Department.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 16, 2011 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas. The Mass will be celebrated by Father Anthony Williams of the church. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe.

The Rosary will be recited at the church Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at the church during the hour prior to the Rosary.
