Frederick Charles Miller, 75, of Emporia, Kansas, died on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia.


Fred was born on September 7, 1938 near Home, Kansas, the son of Emil Lew and Lena Matilda Moser Miller. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1956, Baker University in 1962, and Emporia State University in 1966. He married Jean Carol Schmidt on February 17, 1963 in Marysville, Kansas. She survives of the home.


Other survivors include: their two sons, Wade Miller of Emporia, and Grant Miller and wife Karen of Kansas City, Kansas; a daughter, Valerie Arment and husband Darrin of Hiawatha, Kansas; three grandchildren, Preston Miller, Landon Miller, and Allison Arment; a brother, Gary L. Miller of Memphis, Tennessee; and two sisters, Gloria Breeding of Marysville, Kansas, and Virgilia Miller of Idaho Falls, Idaho.


He is preceded in death by his parents.


Fred was the Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative Director from 1973 to 1996, and later the Marion County Special Education Assistant Director and Director from 1998 to 2005. He was a member of First Christian Church in Emporia, and a member of the National Pony Express Association.


Cremation is planned, with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2013 at First Christian Church, Emporia. Burial will take place at a later date at Rosean Cemetery, north of Emporia.
