Fredrick J. Adams, 92 of Emporia, Kansas died Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor with his family at his bedside.

Fred was born in Fremont, Ohio on June 20, 1926 to Fred W. and Mary D. Adams. His childhood was spent in Lima, Ohio until graduation from high school. He attended and played the trumpet in the marching bands at Purdue, Ohio State and Bowling Green colleges. While at Ohio State, he was honored to play solo Taps upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Upon graduation from college he moved to Chicago for a position at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He then worked for General Mills, Inc. where he met his future wife Patricia Sikorski.

On October 15, 1955 he and Pat were married at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Chicago. They lived in Chicago for a few years and they had their first child, Pamela. Then the moved to Evansville, Indiana where their son Kenneth was born. In 1969 they moved to Emporia, Kansas for the first time where Fred worked for Didde-Glaser for fifteen years. In Emporia they were members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Upon his retirement from Didde, Fred was a VISTA Volunteer at the Atlanta Regional Commission. Fred and Pat then moved Hendersonville, North Carolina before moving back to Emporia in 2005, to be closer to their son and granddaughter. They renewed their membership at St. Andrew’s Church and for several years he volunteered with the St. Andrew’s Representative Payee Program. Fred was member of the Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, A.F. & A.M. of Kansas and the Charlotte, N.C. Shrine Temple.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and sister Evelyn Carpenter.

Fred is survived by his wife, their children Pamela Scoggins of Emporia and son Kenneth Adams of Emporia, granddaughter Kristi Adams of Emporia, grandson Gregg Etter and wife Jung of Allen, Texas and twin great-granddaughters Amy and Yumi of Allen, Texas.

Cremation is planned and services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
