Gary L. Smiley, 72, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, December 12, 2013 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia.
Gary Lynn Smiley was born at LaCrosse, Kansas on October 17, 1941, the son of Gerald and Winona (Seltman) Smiley. He married Joyce A. Clason at the Pawnee Rock, Kansas United Methodist Church on March 14, 1965. She survives of the home.
Other surviving family members include: daughters, Krystal Catron and husband Ed, Iola, Kansas, and Jaynae Dawn Smiley, Emporia; sister, JoAnn Novotny and husband Rick, Great Bend, Kansas; grandson, Devon Catron; and step-grandchildren, Chris Catron and Megan Catron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, LeRoy Eugene Smiley; and a sister, Connie Smiley.
Mr. Smiley was a truck driver for a number of different transportation companies, and retired due to his health. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Emporia, and had served in the Kansas National Guard.
Cremation is planned.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 16, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Joe Tuttle of the church. Inurnment, at a later date, will be in Pawnee Rock Cemetery, southwest of Great Bend, Kansas.
