George D. Anderson, 88, of rural Emporia, Kansas, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
George David Anderson, the son of David and O’Tillie Hagstrom Anderson, was born November 20, 1924 in McPherson, Kansas. He married Mary Ellen White in Miami, Oklahoma on July 23, 1958. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2004.
Mr. Anderson graduated from McPherson High School in 1942, and was a farmer. He was an Army veteran of WWII, a member of Ball-McColm Post #5 of the American Legion, Lowry-Funston Post #1980 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (where he was also a past commander), Disabled American Veterans, Emporia Eagles Club Aerie #2587, and First Congregational Church.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Roger Brummett of Emporia, and Georgeanna and Raymond Nichols of Sedgwick, Kansas; five grandchildren, Justin Brummett, Nicole Brummett, Travis Brummett, Andrea Heck, and Shauna Walden; three great-grandchildren, Cayman Heck, Carsen Heck and Jett Walden; and a sister, Ramona Jones of Gillette, Wyoming.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The Rev. Andrew McHenry of First Congregational Church will conduct the service, with Military Honors by Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He will be cremated following the service, with interment in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, at a later date.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the funeral home.
