George E. Dean

George E. Dean, formerly of Emporia, and more recently of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 26, 2022 Hospice House, Olathe, at the age of 94.

George E. Dean was born in Emporia, Kansas on September 30, 1927, the son of Elza Henry and Julia (Satchell) Dean.  George married Rita A. Nauman at Emporia on October 14, 1948. She died April 24, 2017.  He is survived by his daughters;  Sandra Kay Dean-Mahomet, Hatfield, PA, Linda S. Ernst, Olathe, KS, and Deborah Dean-Flannelly, Bellingham, WA, grandchildren; Kelly McDonald, Rebecca Loughman, Jamie Kratzberg, Katelin Flannelly, and Charlie Flannelly, and 8 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and one brother.

He served in the United States Coast Guard Merchant Marine, including service during World War II. Following his discharge he returned to Emporia and was a construction contractor, building over 100 homes and also doing residential and commercial remodeling. Beginning in 1970 George began teaching in the Building Trades Program at Flint Hills Technical College, retiring after 20 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member and Past Commander of Post #7957, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 7, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The mass will be celebrated by Father Carter Zielinski of the church. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.   The Rosary will be recited at the church Thursday evening  at 7:00 P.M.
