George Leroy Flowers

George LeRoy Flowers, 70, of rural Allen, Kansas, died Saturday, September 6, 2014 at his home.

George was born October 1, 1943 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of George F. and Margaret Doel Flowers. He was a graduate of Jarbloe High School in Tonganoxie, Kansas. George married Mary L. Pratt on June 26, 1972 in Seattle, Washington. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include: daughters, Laura Knaus and husband Jasan of Bonney Lake, Washington and June Millsap of Allen; stepdaughter, Valerie Robeson and husband Lane of Winona, Minnesota; brothers, Thorton Flowers of San Diego, California and William Flowers of Spring Hill, Tennessee; sisters, Bonnie Farley of Kansas City, Kansas and Nancy Flowers of Lawrence, Kansas; and grandchildren, Cody, Tristan, Parker, Kayla, Logan, Emily, Tucker and Walker.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

George served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1963 to 1967. He was a journeyman pipefitter working in the Lockheed shipyard and the Todd shipyard in Seattle, Washington after being discharged from the Navy. He retired in 1998. George was a member of Local 32, Pipefitters Union in Seattle, and Moreland, Edmunds, Clayton, Thompson Post #389, American Legion, Allen, Kansas.

Cremation is planned and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family has requested no flowers, and instead suggests memorial contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
