George Donald Forrester

November 27, 1937 — December 29, 2017

George Donald Forrester, 80, died on Friday, December 29, 2017, at Comfort Care Home of Wichita, KS. He was born to Donald Dean and Virginia May (Burnap) Forrester in Emporia, Kansas where he was raised.

George followed various career paths. He retired as a Warrant Officer 3 from the Kansas National Guard after 23 years of service. Of all his vocational life, he enjoyed being a flight instructor and helicopter pilot over all other careers.

He worked in manufacturing for various companies, including 15 years at Modine Manufacturing (Emporia, KS, Michigan City, MI, Racine, WI), and Dustrol Inc. (Towanda, KS). He retired his working life from El Dorado prison where he served as a guard for 12 years.

His greatest enjoyment came from being an outdoorsman. George was an avid hunter and fisherman most of his life, eventually purchasing a home on Council Grove City Lake where he boated, fished, and repaired fishing reels into his seventies. Taking drives in the country was also a source of great enjoyment. He was a strong advocate for the environment and frequently wrote his government officials about laws and policies they were legislating.

Early in his life, George was married to Miriam Ann (Erdtmann), they later divorced. To their union was born his four children: Wayne (Shirley) of Dodge City, Matt (Lori) of Salina, Amy Truhe (Doug) of Salina, and Paul (Jenny) of Salina. Later in life, he married Alice M. (Brown).

George is survived by wife Alice, of Emporia, four children and their spouses, his siblings, Robert (Corkey) of Emporia, Carol Wright of Daniel Island, South Carolina, Mike (Linda) of Kansas City, Missouri, a step son, Kevin Price of Grand Prairie, Texas, 11 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be held Friday, January 5, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 10:00 a.m. preceding the 10:30 funeral. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with a lunch at the church. Memorials may be given to the church and to Home Health of Kansas through Roberts Blue Barnett Funeral Home.
