Geraldine "Gerry" Schroeder Rees, 84, Emporia, Kansas, died on August 8, 2014 at Holiday Resort, Emporia.
Gerry was born on February 26, 1930 in rural Olpe, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Martha Kettner Schroeder. She married Emlyn Rees on June 25, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church, southwest of Olpe.
Geraldine is survived by a son, David Rees and wife, Juanita of Emporia; daughter, Diane Winter and husband, Melvin of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Craig Rees of Hays, Kansas, Gwen Spade and husband, Michael of Admire, Kansas, Erin Johannes and husband, Jack of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Matthew Winter of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three brothers, Walter Schroeder, Gilbert Schroeder and Lloyd Schroeder.
Gerry worked in her early years at F.W. Woolworth and after marrying Emlyn worked on the farm and was a homemaker. Later she worked for the Lyon County Noxious Weed Department in Emporia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, south of Emporia.
Visitation will be Monday evening, August 11, 2014 from 7:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
