Gilbert M. “Hoach” Lanzrath, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the age of 68.

Gilbert Michael Lanzrath was born on December 12, 1955, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Lyle and Delores (Evans) Lanzrath.  Gilbert married Penny Potter on September 19, 1996, on the Snake River at the base of the Teton Mountains in Moose, Wyoming. He is survived by his son, Nicholas (Dakota) Holmes, Wichita, Kansas, Sisters; Connie (Billy) Carr, Saffordville, Kansas, Mary Jane Janko, Lyndon, Kansas, brothers; Patrick Lanzrath, Starkville, Mississppi, Matthew (Marilyn) Lanzrath, Allen, Kansas, Daniel (Amy) Lanzrath , Wichita, Kansas, and Joseph Lanzrath, Salina, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Penny, parents, and sisters; Ann Tabor, Jean Grayson, Elizabeth Rentera, Cindy Clatterbuck, Toni Lanzrath, and Jackie Phillips, and one niece, Jenni Carr.

He was a master carpenter for 45 years and had been retired the past three years. Mike attended church regularly with his life-long friends.  He was a graduate of Emporia High School.

Mike was a great man, husband, father, brother and friend. He never met a stranger and if a friend it was usually for life. His stories of his life, family, and friends were endless. Mike was a very caring person.

Hobbies were fishing and supplying fish for the annual fish fry. Hunting was a family tradition. He loved traveling all over the United States for work or pleasure. He loved WWE and enjoyed attending matches, football and Super Bowl celebrations were a favorite. Family gatherings were a must.  Mike was a true American and loved his country and President elect Trump was a celebration for him.

Cremation is planned. Services will be at the Saffordville United Methodist Church, Toledo, Kansas on January 11, 2025, at 11:00 A.M.  Memorial contributions to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
