Gladys L. Shown of Emporia died on Friday, April 16, 2021 at her home in Emporia. She was 89.
Gladys was born on February 29, 1932, at Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Edgar and Elsie (Selby) Kinzy. She married Clinton (Junior) Shown, Jr. on December 25, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas. He died on July 11, 1989 in Emporia.
Surviving family members include son, Randy L. Shown of Emporia; daughter, Cindy Shown of Emporia; grandsons, Tyler Shown of Pueblo, Colorado, and C.J. Shown (Nici) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; great-grandson, Colton Shown. In the last few years, she particularly enjoyed the company of her great grandson, complaining about him being too loud and annoying, but always asking when he was coming back. The two of them could frequently been seen hunched over a laptop with Colton explaining YouTube or some video game, then crashed out together on the couch after too much screen time.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Florence O’Dell.
Gladys was a registered nurse at Newman in her early years but became a homemaker after marriage. A member of Grace United Methodist Church, she loved her family, weekends at their Lake Kahola cabin, and the many cats and dogs they adopted through the years. Gratitude to caregiver Isabel for her assistance and dedication over last few months.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Patio Garden in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Dave Holland Memorial Youth Hunt can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State Street, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
