Glendon S. Iverson, 87, of Emporia, Kansas, died Friday, July 6, 2012 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Glendon Stevenson Iverson, the son of George and Gladys Stevenson Iverson, was born January 17, 1925 in Emporia. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Eunice and John Stevenson, and grew up with their children Beulah, Herbert, and Avis, as brothers and sisters. He attended grade school in Plymouth and graduated from Emporia High School. Glen had worked for many years for the Thomas Farm Gas Co., Newman Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was an active member of the First Christian Church, serving on many church committees, including the deacons and elders. He volunteered for the hospice organization for 25 years, and with compeer for 15 years. He was active in the 4-H Alumni Organization, and was a member of the Gideons. He enjoyed gardening as a hobby, and raised beautiful lilies that he enjoyed sharing.
Glendon married Bonnabelle “Bonnie” May Bailey on June 15, 1952 in Emporia, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She survives of Emporia.
Other surviving members of the family include: daughter-in-law, Marilyn Iverson of McPherson, Kansas; four grandchildren, Greg Iverson of Colorado Springs, Colorado., Kevin Iverson, Travis Iverson, and Amy Jantz, all of McPherson; and three great-grandchildren, Brianna Iverson, Spencer Iverson, and Jamison Jantz. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Gary Iverson and Scott Iverson.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 9, 2012, at the First Christian Church, Emporia. Pastor Bob Colerick will officiate. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia.
Memorial contributions to either the First Christian Church (or the church of the donor’s choice) or to Emporia Friends of the Zoo, may be sent in care of the funeral home.
