Glenn Leroy Belt, 80, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Holiday Resort, Emporia.
Glenn was born December 15, 1934 in Council Grove, Kansas, the son of Henry Jefferson and Mary Elizabeth Clark Belt. Upon graduation from Emporia High School, he worked for the DeBauge Brothers for thirteen years. He later owned and operated a Standard Oil service station.
In 1965, he went to work for the Emporia Post Office. He retired from the postal service in 1992. After retirement, he worked at the Emporia Senior Center delivering meals to the senior centers in Allen, Americus, and Reading, and also to individual rural homes. He eventually retired fulltime after working for several years at the Senior Center.
Glenn married Bonnie Lee Cole on May 6, 1954 in Council Grove. She preceded him in death. Born to this union were three children: Glenda Lee Belt Medlen, Michael Eugene Belt, and Sandra Kay Belt Short. Glenda also preceded him in death. Michael Eugene Belt and Sandra Kay Belt Short survive.
Glenn is also survived by a sister, Darlene Worcester; ten grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard, Kenneth, Earl, and Everett, and three sisters, Beulah, Verna, and Bernice.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Patio Garden in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Pastor James Scott of Cornerstone Baptist Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in Glenn’s name to the American Heart Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
