Glennis M. Lyons

Funeral services for Glennis M. Lyons, 97, Emporia, Kansas, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Mr. Ken Hanson, Emporia Presbyterian Manor. Cremation will follow services, with inurnment at a later date in Blakely Cemetery, Madison, Kansas.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:00 P.M.

Glennis Morin Trainer was born in Iola, Kansas on August 8, 1916, the daughter of James E. and Viola Maude (Strawderman) Trainer.  She married Luther L. Lyons at Emporia on October 15, 1945. He died March 15, 1991.

Surviving family members include: her son, Larry L. Lyons, and his wife, Barbara, of Emporia; son-in-law, Stephen Beer, Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Gantry I. Wilson, and wife, Anna, of Huntington Beach, California, and Lane E. Odle, and husband, Keegan, of Overland Park, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Anysa Marie Wilson and Tristan Lyons Wilson, Huntington Beach, and Elliott Kay Odle, Overland Park.

Mrs. Lyons was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Linda Lyons Beer, who passed away on November 28, 2013; brothers, James L., Ray, Richard Lyle, and Joe Trainer; and sisters, Delpha Doris Lager, and Donna Lou Trainer.

She was a P.B.X. operator at Emporia State University for 20 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Women’s Bowling League, American Legion Auxiliary, Newman Hospital Auxiliary, Sunshine Bus Tour Group, PBX Club, and Civil Service Staff Retirement Group.

Instead of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hand In Hand Hospice, Emporia Friends of the Zoo, or Emporia Public Library, sent in care of the funeral home.
