Gloria Baxter, 63, Emporia, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka.
Gloria Harder, the daughter of Calvin Spencer and Anna (Kayser) Harder, was born in Emporia, on April 11, 1951. She married Steve Baxter at Grace Assembly in Burlingame, Kansas, in 1988, and they later divorced, but remained lifelong friends.
Surviving Gloria is her daughter, Brieanna (Ed) Batchelder, Emporia; brother, Russell (Kathy) Harder, Council Grove, Kansas; and a sister, Rowena (Al) Eickhoff, Falls City, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Richard.
Gloria attended the Bushong Grade School, Bushong, Kansas, and graduated from Northern Heights High School, Allen, Kansas. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas.
She taught business at Burlingame (Kansas) High School 17 years, and then taught for Allen County Community College Outreach, Burlingame, Kansas for 7 years. Gloria began working as the receptionist for the Emporia Chamber of Commerce in May of 1997, where she became known as Gloria from Emporia, and retired in April of 2014. She played organ for Grace Assembly in Burlingame and Christian Grace Chapel in Emporia for several years. In her retirement, she enjoyed painting.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ, Emporia, where Gloria was a member, on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. The service will be conducted by Mr. Neil Taylor of the church, and her cousin, Charles Kayser. Family and friends will have a chance to visit and share memories following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Memorials have been established with the church, or Midland Care Hospice (Topeka). Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
