Goldia D. Newton, 88, of Emporia, Kansas, died on September 18, 2012 at Flint Hills Care Center, Emporia.
Goldia was born on June 29, 1924 in Moreland, Kansas, the daughter of Gilbert and JoAnn McGuire Brown. She married Dominick Conway on April 1947 in Emporia. They later divorced. She then married Elmer A. Newton on October 10, 1969 in Emporia. He died on December 15, 1996 in Emporia.
Survivors include: sons,Thomas E. Conway of Overland Park, Kansas, and Donald F. Conway of Emporia; stepson, Albert Newton of Emporia; three grandchildren; one step-grandson; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; brothers, Rev. Winifred Brown of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Donald Brown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her sister’s daughter, whom she helped raise, Joy Unruh of Emporia, and her two daughters; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Archie Brown; sister, Twila Brown; and her twin sister, Sylvia Wente.
Goldia worked many years at the Hornets’ Nest, Emporia State University, Emporia. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Emporia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the First Church of the Nazarene. The service will be conducted by Pastor Mark Henson of the church. Burial will take place at Fruitland Cemetery, Americus, Kansas.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, September 21, 2012, from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Memorial contributions to the First Church of the Nazarene or Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
