Grace M. Lamb, formerly of Emporia, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Table Rock Healthcare Facility in Kimberling City, Missouri. She was 89.
Grace Marie Miller, the daughter of Tom and Allie (Shanes) Miller, was born February 28, 1922 on the family farm near Burlington, Kansas. She married Bennie S. Lamb on September 23, 1939 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1986.
Surviving member of the family include: a son, Michael Lamb and a daughter, Donna Lamb both of Reed Springs, Missouri; a brother, Harry Miller of Kansas City, Missouri; a sister Ruth Campell of Topeka, Kansas; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie S. Lamb; her son, Bennie D. Lamb; one brother, Ed Miller; one sister, Pearl Bowers; and her parents, Tom and Allie Miller.
Grace was a homemaker, and while the family lived in Kansas City she was a waitress at the Green Lantern Restaurant on the Plaza, where she met many famous visitors and residents of the Kansas City area, including Walt Disney. She once asked Mr. Disney how he was doing, and he told her that he was leaving to buy some swampland in Florida. While she lived in Emporia, she and her husband were members of the Flint Hills Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia, Kansas. Pastor Dave Hintz of the Flint Hills Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Toledo, Kansas. The family will meet with friends 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 5, 2001 at the funeral home.
