Grayson Milton Spade, 92, of Rural Reading, Kansas, died on September 28, 2011 at his home in Reading.
Grayson was born on March 12, 1919 in Admire, Kansas, the son of Milton and Delsie McCray Spade. He married Dorothy May Rees on July 20, 1952 in Emporia, Kansas. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include: son, Milton E. Spade of Reading; daughters, Linda J. Orear of Emporia, Kansas, and Katherine A. Huston of Billings, Montana; grandchildren, Tyler and Tyson Orear of Allen, Kansas, Laura Huston Decatur, Illinois, and Rhysa Huston of Lincoln, Nebraska; and a brother, Willard Spade of Emporia.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Ami (Bub) Spade, Warren Spade, and Howard (Bink) Spade.
Grayson was a farmer/stockman. He was a member of the Admire Methodist Church in Admire. Grayson served in the United States Army from September 1941 to December 1945. He was a member of the Moreland-Edmunds-Clayton-Thompson Post #309 American Legion in Allen, Allen Masonic Lodge #109 A.F. & A.M., Kansas Livestock Association, Farm Bureau, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #135 Allen, Kansas. He served on the Reading High School Board, Rural Water District #5, and the Reading Township.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home with Pastor Kim Benson of the Admire Methodist Church officiating. Burial with military honors by the Fort Riley Casualty Unit, and the masonic service by Americus Masonic Lodge will be conducted at the Admire Cemetery, Admire, Kansas.
Visitation will be Friday evening, September 30, 2011 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to the Admire Methodist Church or Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home.
