Harold L. Rees, 90, Emporia, passed away at Flint Hills Care Center Thursday evening, November 19, 2015.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier, Messiah Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, south of Emporia.
Harold L. Rees was born January 20, 1925 at Emporia, Kansas, the son of Gomer and Rhoda (Edwards) Rees. He married Delores Y. Garriott June 22, 1949 at Madison, Kansas. She died August 29, 2008.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Janell Allen, Emporia; son, Gary (Judy) Rees, Tryon, Oklahoma; brother, Ivan Rees, Olathe, Kansas; sister, Mary Woodruff, Emporia; grandsons, Amos Allen, and Spencer (Kayla) Allen; and great-granddaughter, Brilyn Allen, as well as his extended family at Flint Hills Care Center.
Harold served in the Army in World War II in the Military Police. He was a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, A.F. & A.M. and the Arab Shriners. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, traveling, and dancing.
Mr. Rees was a farmer. For 32 years he was a cattle buyer for Fanestil’s Meats, and had worked at Interstate Brands/ Dolly Madison Bakery in Emporia.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
