Harold O. Woods

Harold O. Woods peacefully passed away on September 26, 2011 in Emporia, Kansas, at the age of 90.

Harold was born September 12, 1921 in Cement, Oklahoma to Chester M. & Mary Grace Courtney Woods. They soon moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma where he graduated from Chickasha High School. Harold went on to graduate from Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University) and the University of Missouri – Columbia.


Harold was an Army veteran having served in both WWII and Korea with the Corps of Engineers. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service.


Harold married Dorothy Roggli in 1947. They moved to Emporia in 1949 where he was a professor of Industrial Education at Emporia State University for 37 years until his retirement in 1986. Harold and Dorothy have spent most of the past 25 years since retirement traveling to all 50 states and visiting family.


Harold was a member of the First Christian Church since 1950 where he served as a Deacon and Board member. He volunteered many hours to Boy Scout Troop 157, sponsored by the church, where his three sons were members.


Harold is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home; three sons, Fred of Colville, Washington, Neal of San Jose, California, and Mark of Ottawa, Kansas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church, Emporia, on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 2:00 PM. The service will be conducted by Rev. Bob Colerick of the church. Cremation is planned, with inurnment later in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
