Harriet Rumford

Harriet Rumford, 83, Emporia, Kansas, and formerly of Americus, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas.


Harriet Gould was born in Pratt, Kansas on April 26, 1929, the daughter of Harry and Sibyl (Greene) Gould. She married Albert Jay Rumford on March 30, 1953 in Kingman, Kansas. He died September 30, 1981.


Surviving family members include: five daughters, Cherri Byington, Emporia, Rita McCorkle, Manhattan, Kansas, Judy McNabb, Tucson, Arizona, Sara Gardner, Emporia, and Mary Clements, Americus; two dons, Larry Gene Gould, Wichita, Kansas, and Robert Dean Rumford, Wichita; twenty grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.


She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Allen Atherton; two daughters, Patty Parks, and Brenda Rumford, who died in infancy; two brothers; and five sisters.


Mrs. Rumford was a member of the Church of Christ in Emporia. While living in Americus, she was a volunteer at the Americus Senior Center. She moved from Americus to Emporia this past spring.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 1:30 P.M. at the Church of Christ in Emporia. The service will be conducted by Mr. Neil Taylor, of the church. Interment will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia. The family will greet friends one hour before the service.
