Hazel Mae Gilbert, 97, of Emporia, Kansas, died on May 21, 2011 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
  
  
  Hazel was born on September 17, 1913 in Olpe, Kansas, the daughter of John M. and Anna E. (Ellis) VanSickle. She married R. Ivan Gilbert on February 11, 1934 in Gridley, Kansas. He died on March 26, 1998 in Emporia, Kansas.
  
  
  Surviving family members include: son, Richard Gilbert of Grahm, Washington; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
  
  
  She is preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene J. Schaefer; five brothers; and three sisters.
  
  
  For many years, Hazel worked for Sears in Wichita, and in Colorado as well. She was also an Avon sales representative in Wichita. She was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Emporia.
  
  
  The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Westside Baptist Church in Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Kenneth Armstrong. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Neosho Rapids, Kansas. A visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, May 31, 2011, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
  
  
  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either Westside Baptist Church or Emporia Presbyterian Manor. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
