Helen Mae Rathke, 86, formerly of Emporia, Kansas, died on January 14, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society of Dodge City, Kansas.

Helen was born on September 26, 1926 in Iuka, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Alta Helen Raymond Wright.

Helen was raised on a farm located north of Kiowa, Kansas in Moore Township. She graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1945, and then attended the Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia. She majored in Elementary Education and after her junior year she received a World War II bond teaching certificate. Helen then taught in a one room school house at Shaw Creek for 10 years. She worked for the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services in Emporia for 15 years until she retired. Helen was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, and Faith Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge.

She is survived by: a son, Leo Rathke Jr. of Emporia; daughters, Teresa Clark of Meade, Kansas, and Melody Nemmers of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Trey Rathke and Bobby Rathke of Americus, Kansas, and Peter Nemmers, Wichita.

She is preceded in death by a son, Stanley Rathke; and brothers, Ervin Wright and Alvin Wright.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Burial will be at Maplewood & Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. A visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the funeral home.
