Helen Eileen Van Sickle, 88, died at her home in Emporia, Kansas on July 17, 2013.
Helen Eileen Briggs was born July 10, 1925 at Reading, Kansas, the daughter of Harry Harvey and Clarice Fuller Briggs. She graduated from Reading High School in 1942. She married Coburn Van Sickle on May 28, 1944.
During the 1940s, she worked at Fort Jewelry and Kansas Power and Light in Emporia. She and her husband owned and operated Van Sickle Oil Company from 1948 until 1987. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the Newman Auxiliary and served on the Auxiliary Board. She was a volunteer for the bloodmobile and an Election Day worker for many years. She was a member of Emporia Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Van Sickle is survived by her husband of the home; two daughters, Sally (Fred) Linhart of Emporia; Lori (Jerry) Schwilling of Rossville; five grandchildren, Jessica (Brigham) Joy, Daniel (Lisa) Linhart, Cameron Grant, Aaron Grant, and Kelsey Linhart; and five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Ellie and Will Linhart, and Kelynn and Beckett Joy. Two other children, Deborah Lynn and John David, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Sunday, July 21 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be Monday, July 22 at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery in Lebo. The Rev. Norbert Tegtmeier of Messiah Lutheran Church will conduct the service.
Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home.
