Hobart “Sonny” Earl Minor, Sr., 69, of Americus, Kansas died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at his home.
Sonny was born April 26, 1945 in Embolton, Virginia, the son of Howard and Blanch (Herron) Minor. He worked 32 years in maintenance at Modine Manufacturing in Emporia, until retiring when the plant closed. Sonny enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was good at working with his hands.
Sonny married Peggy Wastell in Council Grove, Kansas in 1961. She died October 11, 2007. He then married Lori Henning in May 31, 2008 at Peter Pan Park in Emporia, Kansas. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include: son, Hobart E. Minor, Jr. of Americus; daughters, Tonya L. Lacey of Allen, Kansas, Rose Ann Irvin of Americus, and Penny Dionne of Ottawa, Kansas; stepson, Kristopher Schultz of Emporia; stepdaughter, Melody Mitchell and husband Bob of Elmdale, Kansas; brother, Kenneth Minor of Neosho Falls, Kansas; sister, Mary Lou Metcalfe of Dunlap, Kansas; grandchildren, Alan Minor, Dawn Hinson, Benjamin Lacey, Sarah Irvin, Megan Irvin, Dustin Davis, and Alex Irvin; step-grandchildren, Melayna Mitchell and Mateus Mitchell; and great-grandchild, Tegan Mitchell.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a son, Kenneth Minor; granddaughter, Shawnda Minor; and sisters, Jan Cole and Charlotte Whittaker.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Americus Cemetery in Americus. Pastor Patrick Buss of Americus United Methodist Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
