Homer L. Clark, 94, Emporia, Kansas, died on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
The son of Lewis Fredrick and Hazel Jane Shackelford Clark, he was born December 5, 1923 near Waverly, Kansas. When he was six, the family moved to Olivet, Kansas. He attended the Olivet School, graduating in May of 1941. He married Maxine M. Buchtel in Ottawa on April 6, 1947.
From October 1941 to December 1983 he worked for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad where he retired as Chief Clerk to the Division Engineer. During World War II he served in the U.S. Merchant Marine from April 1943 to January 1946. His T2 Tanker ship carried gasoline and oil into the war zones in the South Pacific. He received his Honorable Discharge from the United State Coast Guard January 29, 1946.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years and three brothers, Dr. William Clark, Prairie Village, Ralph Clark, Topeka, and Earl Clark, Emporia. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Florence Buckridge, Mary Rubio, Evelyn Davin, Beverly Becker, and DeEtta Clark.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Emporia, the US Merchant Marine Veterans of WWII, Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Funeral services will be held at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. conducted by Pastor Earl Detwiler. Interment, with military honors will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:00.
