Howard Rhaoul Goodwin

Howard Rhaoul Goodwin, 94 of Overland Park, Kansas died Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Autumn Leaves Memory Care.

Howard was born March 31, 1924 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Byron Kelly and Ada May (Fry) Goodwin. He worked for the US Postal Service for 24 years. Howard served in the US Army during WWII, receiving two Bronze Service Stars, a Purple Heart and a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia, Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Knights of Columbus.

On November 6, 1943 Howard married Mary Alice Geiger in Riverside, California. She died April 18, 2013 in Overland Park. He is survived by: son Gregory Goodwin and wife Susan of Overland Park, daughters Cheryl Wells of Pataskala, Ohio, Dianne Renfro and husband Kurt of Ft. Collins, Colorado, son-in-law Delmer Hiesterman of Missoula, Montana, 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Joyce Hiesterman, grandson Chris Goodwin, son-in-law Ronald Wells, and brothers Charles Goodwin, Arthur Goodwin and Kelly Goodwin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. Father Brandon Farrar will be the Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Olpe, Kansas. Military Honors by US Army Funeral Detail, Ft. Riley, Kansas, Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Rosary will be recited 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
