Howard Jacob Haag

December 10, 1928 — June 1, 2016

Howard Jacob Haag, 87, of Olpe passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka.

Howard was born on December 10, 1928 in Emporia, the son of Albert and Helen Brown Haag. He married Marilyn Irene Spade on March 23, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. She died February 14, 2013.

Other survivors include five sons, Carl F. Haag and wife Maggie, Manhattan, Kansas, Rodney J. Haag and wife Janet, Emporia, Kansas, Christopher A. Haag and wife Linda, Hartford, Kansas, Matthew O. Haag and wife Eleonora, Wichita, Kansas and Joseph A. Haag, Olpe, Kansas; four daughters, Teresa Schuler and husband Kenny, Emporia, Kansas, Mary Lopez and husband Richard, Olpe, Kansas, Clare Spellman and husband Stephen, Emporia, Kansas, Sarah Fager and husband Michael, Miller, Kansas; brothers, Roger J. Haag, and Mark J. Haag; sisters, Thouret L. Gaughan, Ida Jo Jones, Charlotte Swisher, Catherine Brady, Virginia Penney, Constance Rogers, and Alberta Smith; seventeen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Arthur J. Haag, and David John Haag, sisters Rose Marie Pfaff, Shirley A. McAnarney, and Mary Helen Haag.

After Howard graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Olpe, he served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Howard worked for Modine as a tool and die machinist where he retired. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe and Knights of Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, June 6, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., Sunday evening, June 5, 2016 at the church. Memorial contributions to the St. Joseph Catholic Church or Knights of Columbus can be sent in care of the funeral home.
