Howard Clair Yeager

Howard Clair Yeager, 91, died December 19, 2013 at his home in Wichita, Kansas.

Howard was born December 21, 1921 the son of John & Julia (Pierce) Yeager in Emporia, Kansas. He was the youngest of eleven children, and the only one to finish high school after working odd jobs to pay his own way.

He worked many years as a tire mechanic at Montgomery Wards in Emporia, and then retired from Bunge Corporation on May 31, 1985 after working there 20 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia, and Vernon H. Buck Post #7957, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia. Howard was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia.

Howard married Evelyn Main on June 8, 1952 in Emporia. She died November 29, 2000 in Emporia. He is survived by: son, William Yeager of Mustang, Oklahoma; daughter, Donna Whitesell of Wichita; and three grandchildren, Steven Yeager of Mustang, Oklahoma, Michelle Whitesell of Topeka, Kansas and Zachery Whitesell of Pittsburg, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Evelyn; brothers, Clarence, Morris, John, and Henry; and sisters, Vina Higbee, Maggie Yeager, Pearl Yeager, Florence Yeager, Edith White and Bessie Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday December 28, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Pastor Lee Hoskins of Emporia will be officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Military Honors will be provided by Ball-McColm Post 5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday December 27, 2013 at the funeral home.
