Ilda Maurine Kline, 96, of Emporia, Kansas, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Ilda was born on August 5, 1918 in Eureka, Kansas, the daughter of Cread and Hazel Bailey Souders. She married Fred “Ted” Brooks Kline on November 16, 1962 at the First Christian Church in Emporia. He died on July 10, 2010 in Emporia.
Survivors include: daughters, Zoetta Jean Waggener and husband James Brookover of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Debra Kay Kline of Overland Park, Kansas; grandson, Drugh Waggener and wife LaCinda of Ely, Nevada; grandchildren, Lyssa Waggener and Kincaid Waggener; and sisters, Evelyn Cracraft of Eureka, Kansas, and Norma Jean Branstetter of Silverton, Oregon.
She is preceded in death by her husband, and brother, Richard Gail Souders.
Ilda had a long career at Zenescheks department store in Eureka and was also the chaperone for the Rockin’ T teen dance center. After moving to Emporia she worked at J.C. Penney for several years before going to work at the Memorial Union Bookstore on the Emporia State University Campus, where she retired 1981. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Emporia, American Legion Auxiliary, and Silver Dolphins.
Ilda played golf into her early nineties, and was a member of the Kansas Women’s Golf Association and active in the Emporia Women’s golf leagues. She enjoyed ESU Hornet sports and could often be seen in her seat at the football stadium as well as cheering on the Lady Hornets.
Cremation has taken place with a Memorial service to be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 15, 2015 at the First Christian Church, Emporia. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
