Indulis “Indy” Dambro, 77, Emporia, Kansas passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
Indulis Dambro was born November 25, 1948 in the Displaced Persons Camp in Oldenburg, Germany. He was the son of Adolfs Ernst and Aina Z. (Vikmanis) Dambro. Indy married JoEllen Doxon December 30, 1971 at the First United Methodist Church, Omaha, Nebraska. JoEllen survives. He is also survived by his daughter; Megan (Josh Rosebaugh) Dambro, Lawrence, Kansas, son; Ryan Dambro, Atlanta, Georgia, Brother; Gunter (Connie) Dambro, Sister; Sylvia (Mitch) Schmitz, and grandson; Jordy Dean Rosebaugh. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister; Ilga Dambro.
Indy had been a resident of Emporia since 1967. He received his BA in Technical Theater from Emporia State University in 1983. Until his retirement he was Public Services Executive for Albert Taylor Hall at Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas. Indy also owned his own business, Theater Tech, Inc., installing theatrical equipment in churches, schools, and theaters. He was a member of Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church and had served as President of the church board. He was a member of the Emporia All Veterans Memorial Board of Directors and had been a member of the Emporia Arts Council.
Warrant Officer 4 (retd) Dambro had served in the Kansas Army National Guard as a JAG officer a total of 42 years. Serving first with the 127th Field Artillery in Ottawa, Kansas, then the 169th Support Batallion , 69th Infantry Brigade, Topeka, later in the Headquarters, 35th ID (Mechanized) in Fort Leavenworth. He finished his career with a return to Topeka with the JAG at State Area Command (STARC). Indy had served in Bosnia, Thailand, and had been deployed to Fort Benning, Georgia in 2008.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. in Albert Tayolr Hall on the campus of Emporia State University. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, with joint military honors by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard, Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends Friday evening, June 26, 2026 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Kansas.
Memorial have been established with the Emporia All Veterans Memorial, Kansas National Guard Museum, Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, Emporia Arts Council, or Emporia State University. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801
