Jackie Dean “Jack” Grimsley, 83 of rural Americus, Kansas died Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the University Of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Jack was born January 15, 1935 in Americus, Kansas the son of John W. and Anna Marie (Christensen) Grimsley. He was the 7 th of 7 children Jack was a lifetime farmer, a contractor owning Grimsley Builders, building houses for 32 years. In 1989, with his son Larry, they started the manufacturing company GSI in Americus. Jack worked until 2016 retiring at the age of 82. He was a member of the Americus United Methodist Church, Americus Masonic Lodge, was active with 4-H as a project leader and with helping kids with their projects. Jack was an avid Emporia State Basketball fan. He enjoyed working and spending time with his family.
On January 21, 1955 Jack married Joyce Davidson in Emporia, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include: son Larry Grimsley and wife Wanda of Emporia, daughters Debbie Hemry and husband Doug of Tucson, Arizona, Rhonda Robidou and husband Rick of Americus, Denise Foster and husband Keith of Emporia, Michelle Grimsley of Reno, Nevada, brother Dale Grimsley of Americus, grandchildren Kari Wedel and husband Chris, Ashley Bennett and husband Carl, Megan Williams and husband Nate, Kristy Dekat and husband Craig, Colby Fuller, Kelsey Keith and husband Justin, Jaimee Foster, great-grandchildren Colin Wedel, Dean Wedel, Evan Bennett, Lily Bennett, Kairi DeKat, and Bodie Keith. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Winifred Gatewood, Mildred Daharsh, brothers Leslie Grimsley, Ross Grimsley, and Glenn Grimsley.
Cremation is planned. Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Pastor Gene Huston and Pastor Sheri Ellwood will be officiating. Inurnment will be in the Americus Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Americus United Methodist Church, the Americus Library or the Newman Hospital Auxiliary and sent in care of the funeral home.
