James L. Jensen

James L. Jensen, 69, passed away August 25, 2012 at his home in rural Eskridge, Kansas, with his wife and sons at his side.

Jim was born June 15, 1943, at Jacksonville, Iowa, the eldest of six sons of Grover and Mary Harter Jensen. At the age of 12 the family relocated to Arlington, Nebraska, where Jim grew up in the Arlington community and schools. Jim married Sandie Penke of Bennington, Nebraska on October 3, 1964.

Three sons, Darren, Kevin and Ryan were born to this union. Jim was employed in the trucking business and in 1972 the family transferred to Topeka, Kansas, where Jim became dispatcher, terminal manager, and director of terminals for Chip Carriers, contract carriers for Frito-Lay.

After several years, Jim formed Jensen Truck Line, contracting to carriers including Graves Truck Line. Jim and Sandie purchased a farm near Dover, Kansas in 1979, where Jim began farming and continued the truck line for 15 years. For several years Jim partnered with Schwant Tractor in Dover in the sales of Belarus tractors. After that, Jim enjoyed cattle ranching for 18 years at rural Eskridge, and he also went back to the trucking business, retiring in 2008 from Marten Transport.

Jim is survived by: his wife, Sandie; sons, Darren, Topeka, Kevin (Stephanie), Hoyt, Kansas, and Ryan (Lori), Topeka; grandchildren, Luke, Sarah and Rachel; brothers Ed, Thurman, Iowa, Chuck, Yorktown, Iowa, and Jerry, Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Roger and Dennis.

A family visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, Eskridge. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2012, also at the Eskridge church. Burial will follow in Dover Cemetery, Dover.
