James Michael O’Mara passed away August 2, 2018.
James Michael O’Mara was born on January 23, 1942 in Emporia, the son of Wilbur J. O’Mara and Mildred (Heffron) O’Mara. He is survived by his wife, Lynda, of the home.
Jim graduated from Emporia High School in 1961 and the Kansas Police Academy in 1973. He owned O’Mara Coffee Company and worked in sales for most of his life. Following the sale of his business he worked for the Department of Homeland Security for five years before he retired. He was a volunteer for the Newman Hospital Auxiliary. He was a member of the Early Bird Optimist Club and the Rusty Zippers morning coffee club where he enjoyed many friendships. Jim and his wife played in a monthly pitch club for the last 27 years and enjoyed traveling, vacationing and golfing with good friends. His favorite activity all his life was watching his children and then his grandchildren participate in their sports activities.
On December 27, 1962 he married Lynda Crusinbery at Sacred Heart Church in Emporia, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors are daughter Kelly (Dean) Taylor of Andover, daughter Bridget (Pat) Walmsley of Lawrence, son Matt (Tia) O’Mara of Plano, Texas, grandsons Ty Walmsley of Lawrence, Cole Taylor of Andover, Jake Taylor of Andover, Zach (Ally) Taylor of Augusta, and granddaughter Courtney (Tim) Walker of Olathe, great-grandsons Reed Taylor of Augusta, Luke Walker and Samuel Walker of Olathe, sister Betty Nail of Emporia, brother Ned (Diane) O’Mara of Emporia, aunt Mary Korte of Lawrence and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. O’Mara has been cremated. A service for the celebration of his life will be at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 11th and Neosho, at 11 a.m. Friday, August 10. The family will meet with friends following the service. The family request no flowers. In memory of Jim, you may wish to make a contribution to Food for Students through the Emporia Commuity Foundation or to Hand in Hand Hospice.
