James Walter Rhoads, Jr.

James Walter Rhoads, Jr., known to his friends and family as Jimmy, passed away at his home in Emporia on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the age of 59. He was born on February 28, 1965, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Jim Rhoads, Sr. and Phyllis (Parks) Rhoads.

Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Emporia, where he developed a deep love for the outdoors. He spent much of his youth hunting prairie chicken and enjoyed countless hours scouting waterfowl and deer, as well as fishing of all kinds – a passion he carried into adulthood. His fondness for nature and the outdoors was a defining part of his life.

He is survived by his brother, Terry Rhoads, Sr. of Emporia; nephews Terry Rhoads, Jr. of Emporia, Clifton Rhoads of Wichita, and Justin Rhoads of Eudora; his niece, Lisa Dial of Emporia; and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Randall Rhoads, Sr.

A graveside service will be held at Lebo Creek Cemetery on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions to the Audubon of Kansas, in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State St., Emporia, KS 66801.

Jimmy's love for the outdoors and his easygoing, kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
