James A. Sherman, 86, of Emporia, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
James was born April 13, 1926, the son of James G. and Mildred (Allen) Sherman, in Greenwood County, Kansas. He Married Iva Eleanor Drake on June 2, 1947 in Eureka, Kansas. She died October 18, 1981 in Emporia. He then married Melba L. Windsor on May 25, 1984 in Emporia. She died July 18, 2009 in Emporia.
James is survived by: sons, Dennis Sherman of New Strawn, Kansas, and Douglas Sherman of Lebo, Kansas; stepson, Dennis Windsor of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; daughters, Nancy Greenfield of Overland Park, Kansas, Linda Johnston of Phoenix, Arizona, and Janice Stair of Emporia; stepdaughters, Kathleen Windsor of North Carolina, and Carla Brown of Wichita, Kansas; sisters, Jean Mautz of Hartford, Kansas, and Wanda Lynn of Salina, Kansas; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, a brother, and a sister.
James was a Road Master for the Santa Fe Railroad and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 11, 2013 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia. Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church will be officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
