James Daniel Wood, Jr.

James D. Wood, Jr., 60, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

James (Jim) Daniel Wood, Jr. was born in Oak Park, Illinois on January 23, 1965, the son of James Daniel (Sr.) and Betty J. (Ross) Wood. Jim married Denise Lyn Wood (DeZetter) at Saint Vianney Catholic Church, North Lake, Illinois, on September 23, 1990.  Denise passed away on November 11, 2024. Jim is survived by his son; James (Taylor) Wood, III, Emporia, his daughter; Haylie Wood, Emporia, brothers; Jim (Maria) Hoalt Chicago, IL & John Hoalt, Chicago, IL.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

In 1982 Jim was asked to his Senior Prom by Denise Lyn DeZetter, they would later marry and spend 41 years together until her death just a few months ago.  James was a HAM radio enthusiast, lifelong Gunsmoke fan and loved watching NHRA drag racing & NASCAR. He loved to spend weekends in his garage tinkering with various projects and helping his daughter, Haylie, with her Corvette.

He was a maintenance engineer with Hostess Brands / Dolly Madison Bakery in Emporia since transferring here in October of 2014 from the company’s Schiller Park, Illinois facility.

Cremation is planned. The family will receive friends at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Saturday afternoon, February 22, 2025 from 3:00 until 5:00
