Janet Colleen Parks

Janet Colleen Parks, 75 of Emporia, Kansas died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at her home.

Janet was born July 22, 1942 in Emporia, the daughter of Carl L. and Ruth (Buchanan) Riley.  She received her Master’s degree in Education from Emporia State University and was the owner of Dale Parks Basements, Inc.  Janet was a member of the First Christian Church in Emporia, Chapter DI of the PEO, Tri Sigma Sorority, and served on the USD 253 School Board and served as President for many years.  She enjoyed reading, traveling, time with family, and was an avid Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Royals fan.

On July 28, 1963 Janet married Dale Parks in Emporia.  They were married for 32 years before he passed away in 1995.  She is survived by a son, Brady Parks and wife Kim of Emporia; and their three children: Jessica 22, Hank 15, and Lilly 12.  Daughter Ashley Goebel and husband Pete of Blue Springs, Missouri; and twin daughters Annie and Lucy age 9.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother Rod Riley.

The family will host a gathering in Janet’s honor at the Emporia Country Club on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Emporia Friends of the Library or ESU Scholarship in her honor.
