Janet Sue “Jan” Hedges, Merriam, Kansas, and formerly of Emporia, died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas, at the age of 69.
Janet Sue McMinn was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on November 5, 1945, the daughter of B.L.D. and Elmaleda (Hauser) McMinn. She married Bill Hedges at Emporia on November 6, 1982. He survives.
Besides her husband, Bill, Jan is survived by her daughter, Melissa Thomas Gronau, Wichita, Kansas; mother, Elmaleda McMinn, Emporia; stepdaughter, Tanya Mathieu, Olathe, Kansas; grandson, Zack Thomas; and step-grandchildren, Ashton, Aidan, and Avery Mathieu.
She was preceded in death by her father, and a brother, Jim McMinn.
Jan was a member of the First Christian Church, Emporia. She was employed as a Clerk for BNSF Railroad for 30 years, and had retired 6 years ago.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church, Emporia, on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Bob Colerick of the church. Inurnment will follow in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia.
The family will receive friends the hour before the service in the church.
