Janis VanPelt, 73, of Emporia, Kansas, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Flint Hills Care Center, Emporia.
Janis was born on February 27, 1942 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Minford L. and Louise M. Hall Lovett. She married Larry Dean VanPelt on February 19, 1977 in Wichita, Kansas. He died June 9, 2012 in Wichita.
Surviving family members include: sons, Don Andrews and wife Kim of Charleston, West Virginia, and Tom Andrews and wife Rachel of Emporia; daughter, Sherra Kuestersteffen and husband Richard of Emporia; stepdaughters, Lori Bowlin and husband David of Wichita, and Becky Black and husband Jack of Wichita; grandchildren, Zachary Andrews, Evan Andrews, Payton Andrews, Blaine (Andrews) Barrett, Wesley Andrews, Michael Kuestersteffen, Erica Kuestersteffen, Emily (Black) Mettman, Kaitlyn Black, and Sydney O’Donnell; great-grandchildren, Alison Barrett, and Alexander (Tuck) Barrett; sister, Joan A Dreier and husband Ray of Topeka; and beloved niece, Linda Brown and husband Rick of Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Minford L. Lovett; and sister, Jean L Harbour.
Janis worked for Fleming Lumber from 1981 to 1990, and then was the appointment clerk for Medical Arts from 1990 until she retired in 2002.
Cremation is planned, with a memorial service to be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 29, 2015 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Memorials have been established with either Hand in Hand Hospice or Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Contributions may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
