Jay Curtis Ollenberger, 48, died unexpectedly at his home in Madison, Kansas, on Thursday, February 20, 2014.

Jay was born December 23, 1965 in Gary, Indiana, to Martin and Helen (Young) Ellsworth. He was then raised by Helen and his stepfather, the late David Ollenberger.

He was a graduate of Herington High School in Herington, Kansas and attended Butler County Community College. Those who knew Jay knew he was very spiritual and enjoyed reading and sharing the word. He loved music, and enjoyed mixed martial arts and Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Jay married Georgia Ann Ratchford on July 11, 1991 in Kansas City, Missouri. She died June 11, 2009 in Madison, Kansas.

He is survived by: his mother, Helen Ollenberger of Emporia; daughters, Kirsten Burnfin and husband Kyle of Kansas City, Missouri, Kennedy Haymond and husband Phillip of Oklahoma, and Devon Hampson and husband Chris of Kansas City, Missouri; sons, Cody Tapp and wife Emma, Stefan Tapp and wife Jacy, Seth Tapp, and Jairus Tapp and wife Jennifer, all of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Benjamin Ollenberger of Salina, Kansas; sisters, Elizabeth Henson of Springfield, Missouri, and Wendy Wells of Emporia; and grandchildren, Sloane, Eli, Kael, Grayson, Hayden, Chandler, Baxter, Christopher, and Jaydyn. Jay was a loving uncle to nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia.

Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia, Kansas. A celebration of Jay’s life is being planned where his cremains will be scattered in a private family ceremony at a later date.
