Jeanne Marie Bacon, Emporia, Kansas, died June 11, 2024, at Newman Regional Health. She was 97 years old.
Jeanne was born on September 19, 1926, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of James B. and Georgia (Taylor) Smith. She married Lewis J. Bacon on June 6, 1954, in Topeka, Kansas. He passed away on August 21, 1997, in Longview, Washington.
Surviving family members include sons Gary (Katie) Bacon, Emporia, KS; Jeff (Rebecca) Bacon, Emporia, KS; Steve (Jodi) Bacon, Johnston, IA; Brad (Charlene) Bacon, Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren Corey, Kelly, Nicholle, Jared, Tyler, Taylor, Jeffrey and Mackenzie; and great-grandchildren Jack and Luke.
Jeanne received her Master’s Degree in Special Education, and was a special education teacher for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and also attended Lebo Baptist Church, and was very active with the Emporia Senior Center.
Cremation is planned. Private family services will be held at a later date. Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
