J.D. went to be with his Lord and Savior, March 4, 2011. He was 60.
  
  
  Jimmie Dale Dawes was born April 29, 1950 in Yale, Oklahoma, to Vernon Russell & Alice Florence Bobo Dawes. He graduated from Americus High School and married his high school sweetheart, Wilma Jeanne Finney on July 14, 1968 at the Presbyterian Church in Americus. J.D. was blessed with a son, Jason and a daughter, Mendy. After Jason was born, and he and Wilma Jeanne were pregnant with Mendy, J.D. was drafted into the Army. He came out a Specialist 5.
  
  
  After his stint in the Army, J.D. finished college at OSU with a degree in AG ED. He went to school on the GI Bill, carpentered in his spare time, worked nights in a quick trip, hauled hay, and even drove a tractor all night. J.D. landed a job in Elk County as the Ag. and 4-H Agent. Then he went to work for Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals. In two and a half years, Eli Lilly moved him to Garden City to call on the feed yards with their products. He retired after 25 years as the Executive Sales Representative for Elanco Animal Health. At that time, J.D. moved to the Emporia area in 2007, where he lived his dream of buying and raising exotic animals. He was content with the three years he lived his dream.
  
  
  J.D. was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, was a Hunter Safety Instructor, and an avid hunter. He was a life-member of the Exotic Wildlife Association, and a life-member of the National Rifle Association.
  
  
  J.D.’s son and wife Irene, of Garden City, have three children, Nathan and Brevin of Manhattan, and Jacyn of Garden City. J.D.’s daughter and husband Dennis Grove of Guymon, Oklahoma, have six children, Zach & Mackenzee Grove, and Nicholas, Tiana, Gabrielle, and Isabelle Ramos of Guymon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald Ray Dawes of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and a sister, Rita Irene King of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
  
  
  He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Billy Russell Dawes.
  
  
  The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the United Presbyterian Church in Americus, with Pastor Brenda Ulrich of the church conducting the service. The visitation will be Tuesday night, March 8, 2011, from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Rosean Cemetery, north of Emporia, with military honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Emporia.
  
  
  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Americus United Presbyterian Church, or Hand in Hand Hospice, and sent in care of the funeral home.
