Joan Nadine Wingert Lee, 81, of rural Dunlap died on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at her home.
Joan was born on May 20, 1936 in Dunlap, Kansas, the daughter of John Leroy and Bertha E. Estes Wingert. She married Gail Lee on August 11, 1996 at the Dunlap United Methodist Church, Dunlap, Kansas. He survives.
Surviving family members include: husband, Gail; daughter, Judith A. Martin and husband Maurice of Waxahachie, Texas; granddaughter, Amber Martin of Waxahachie, Texas; brothers, Carl E. Wingert and wife Naomi of Emporia, Kansas, Danny Wingert and wife Jeanne of Branson, Missouri; sister-in-law, Eve Wingert of Renton, Washington.
She is preceded in death by a son, Jerry Joe Rumery; and brother, Herman Wingert.
Joan was a homemaker. She was a member of the Dunlap United Methodist Church, as well as the Sunflower 4-H, where she won many awards baking and sewing where she received trips to Kansas City and Chicago. Joan had a love for animals, and growing up she adored riding her horse named Bob. She also enjoyed roller skating, and was a very creative person in quilting, cake decorating, arts, and crafts. She and Gail shared a love of travel.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Dunlap Historical Site, Dunlap with burial following at Dunlap Cemetery, Dunlap. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Memorial contributions to Morris County Historical Society for the Dunlap Historical Site can be sent in care of the funeral home.
