Joe Edgar Whitehurst

Joe Edgar Whitehurst, 60 of Olpe, Kansas died Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas.

Joe was born August 27, 1956 in Olpe, Kansas the son of Edgar & Martha (Schuhs) Whitehurst. He was a farmer and worked at the Dolly Madison Bakery in Emporia. Joe enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at Murphy Oil in Olpe, hunting, reading Louis Lamour books, watching old western movies and his dog Tank.

Joe married Jerrie Tempelmeyer in March of 1978 in Emporia, Kansas. They later divorced. He is survived by sons Joseph Whitehurst and wife Amanda of Topeka, Kansas, Matthew Whitehurst of Olpe, Kansas, daughters Savannah Whitesides and husband Travis of Burlington, Kansas, Bethany Bauman and husband Colton of Harveyville, Kansas, brother Jim Whitehurst of Dallas, Texas, sisters Georgia Trayford and husband Larry of Emporia, Kansas, Edith Baker and husband Toby of Clinton, Missouri, Roxie Harless and husband Dave of Iowa, Rosalea Sanderson and husband Ed of Orlando, Florida, grandchildren Kaden Whitehurst, Karli Whitehurst and Ellington Whitesides. Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends to celebrate Joe’s life from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 18, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Cremation is planned.
