John Raymond Bannon, 78, of Emporia, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Flint Hills Care Center, Emporia.

John was born March 28, 1935 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Raymond Carroll & Betty (Brodt) Bannon. He Graduated from Newton High School in 1953. John received his Bachelor’s Degree from Wichita State University and his Master’s Degree from University of Southern California.

He was a personnel manager, having worked for Michelin Tires in Clermont Ferrand, France; Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas; Columbia Records in Santa Maria, California; and retiring from Didde Web Press in Emporia on April 1, 1999. John was a member of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Emporia and an avid University of Kansas basketball fan.

John married Shirley Ann Friesen on January 22, 1955 in Newton, Kansas. She died May 27, 2011 in Emporia. He is survived by: son, Jeff Bannon of Emporia; daughters, Deanna Defoor and husband Jim of Manhattan, Kansas, and Lisa Brockelman and husband Eldon of Surprise, Arizona; five grandchildren, Weston Defoor of Rose Hill, Kansas, Mallory Defoor of Manhattan, Kansas, Christopher Brockelman of Emporia, Michelle Brockelman Fernandez of Goodyear, Arizona and Jack Bannon of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and three great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant daughter, Jill Bannon; and a brother, Jim Bannon.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 10, 2014 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Emporia. Father Chris Arnold of the church will be officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. Monday, March 10, 2014 at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
