John Burdette Bowne of Emporia, died on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his home. He was 72.
John was born on January 13, 1952, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Benjamine and Jane Rosemary Roscoe Bowne. He married Kathy McKeever on January 13, 1973, in Ottumwa, Iowa. She survives at home.
Surviving family members include wife, Kathy Bowne of Emporia; son, Dale (Trudy) Bowne of Blue Springs, Missouri; daughter, Nikki Bowne of Gun Barrel City, Texas; grandchildren, Chelsea Bowne and Dustin Bass both of Gun Barrel City, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kyler, Jayce, and Steven all of Gun Barrel City, Texas; sister, Peggy (Wes) Stucky of Edmond, Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Mary Ann Switzer and Martha Jane Seintz.
John graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1970. He worked at Wausau before moving to Emporia. After moving to Emporia, he worked at IBP for over 20 years before going to work for Detroit Diesel painting engines for 7 years and retiring in 2009.
Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Wagon Wheel Grill and Bar. The family request in lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Wade’s Ride sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
